POCUS-AI Workshop

Advances in AI assisted Point of Care Ultrasound

Half-day workshop • IEEE EMBC 2026 • Toronto, Canada

Welcome to the AI–POCUS Workshop

The AI–POCUS Workshop focuses on the integration of artificial intelligence with point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) to enable accessible, high-quality diagnostic imaging. This workshop highlights recent advances in AI that enhance image acquisition, improve interpretation, and support reliable ultrasound use by non-expert operators across diverse clinical settings.

Pocket-sized POCUS devices are transforming healthcare delivery due to their portability, affordability, and real-time imaging capabilities. Despite their growing adoption in hospitals, emergency care, and remote environments, their effectiveness is often limited by operator dependence and variability in image quality. AI-driven solutions—including image enhancement, automated analysis, and real-time guidance—are helping overcome these challenges and expanding the usability of POCUS beyond traditional settings.

Impact Statement

This workshop aims to advance the development and adoption of AI-enabled POCUS technologies. By bringing together researchers, clinicians, engineers, and industry leaders, it fosters collaboration toward scalable, low-cost, and portable diagnostic solutions. The ultimate goal is to improve diagnostic accuracy, empower healthcare providers with limited ultrasound training, and expand equitable access to care, particularly in rural and resource-limited communities.
